This will be your final chance to finalise production of your design, evalute your work and complete any outstanding written work to support your design and development work.

This week will concentrate on producing your 'Sleeve'

As you are working, remember to fill in your production diary!

Main project week 4

This week will concentrate on printing your fabric

As you are working, remember to fill in your production diary!

Main project week 3

You will now be expected to produce your design idea
This week will focus on cutting out your fabric to the required size

When you have completed a short task, please ensure you fill in the information on your production diary. This will help you:

  • Reflect on the work you have completed
  • Support your understanding of a task
  • Help you to do a task in the future
  • Support others in your class through tasks that they might find difficult and you produced effectively


Main project week 2

Task 1 -
Generate a range of design ideas for your product.
10 minutes only


Task 2 -

Developing design ideas

Draw your favourite design in box 1 then pass it on o 3 other people on your table.

They must draw your idea again with any changes they think could make it better.

3 minutes each task.



Task 3

Final Design

Make sure it is clear, coloured and well labelled

Design Brief

As an accessories designer, you have been approached by Ikea to design a new range of Macbook / laptop / Kindle / DS / I pad sleeves that will appeal to ­­­­­young people to sell in the shops for summer 2012.

Specification

· Your product must be made in 4 weeks

· It must met the needs of your client

· It must be suitable for your target market

· It needs to make use of the materials provided, however more materials can be used, should you be able to source them

· It must be the correct dimensions for end use

· It needs to show the sewing skills you have acquired this year

· It needs to show one decoration technique you have learnt this year

Skill - Applique


Skills week 4 - Creating a fabric weave

Task 1
Following a demonstration on creating your own weave using scrap fabrics, create your own fabric weave


Skills week 3 - Methods of printing on fabric

Preparation Homework task
Investigate the following methods of printing fabric
Block printing
Batik printing
Mono printing

Task 2
Following a demonstration on Block printing, produce a Block printed sample of fabric

Task 3

Following a demonstration on Batik or Mono printing, produce a fabric sample

Skills week 2 - Machine sample and Needle Felting

Task 1

Sewing machine samples

Following the demonstration you received, very carefully produce a stitch sample of:
  • One row of straight stitch
  • One row of zig zag stitch
Ensure that you reverse at the beginning and end of your stitching to ensure the stitch is secure

Task 2

Complete the Following task:
  • Sewing Machine License
Ensure that this is signed by your teacher before you progress to using a sewing machine independently



Task 2

Following a demonstration, you need to produce a Needle felted sample

Task 3
Following a demonstration, you need to produce a Sample using the Embellisher

Skills Week 1 - H&S in Textiles

Task 1

Identify all the hazards that you can see in the Textiles Room

Lets review the techniques you have learnt in the last few years in Textiles.

Complete the chart below, trying to remember as much as you can about what you have learnt.

  • Ensure all threads are removed from the sewing machine (if they are still there, please inform your teacher, do not remove them yourself)
